On Thursday the 7th of March Scoil Mhuire joined in the international celebration of World Book Day. We started the morning with a parade of the book charachter costumes from the Senior Classes. Can you guess who everyone is dressed up as? After this, the judges had to visit the classes to choose the winners of the best dressed competition. Meanwhile the Junior Classes enjoyed bedtime story time with 5th and 6th Class and their bedtime buddies! Finally it was time to reveal the winners of the Best Dressed Competition! Scoil Mhuire Christmas was celebrated in our school this year with a Carol Concert in St Mary's Church, Knockraha. The whole school community came together with the parents and families of the children to celebrate the nativity story through singing, music and drama. Our wonderful singers backed by musicians Ms Hennessy, Ms Mulcahy and Adam Mulcahy. Our singers were also assisted by the recorder players of 5th and 6th class. Of course we can't forget our fantastic narrators who told the story to our whole congregation. Jack, Farrah, Lucy and Ronan The final set of picture are our Junior Infants. They were brilliant in their reenactment of the nativity. Wishing you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy new year from the principal and staff of Scoil Mhuire.
All the budding scientists in Scoil Mhuire were delighted with the experiments and activities carried out for Science Week 2018. All classes engaged in some serious scientific research! Junior and Senior Infants had great fun watching those Dancing Raisins. Laura in 6th class showed the rest of her class how to recreate the digestive system and its contents! 5th and 6th Class had a fantastic time at UCC Science Week activities.
Here in Scoil Mhuire we have been celebrating Seachtain an Gaeilge over the past two weeks. While the older classes enjoyed a Tráth na gCeist the younger classes took part in some traditional dancing. There was even a dreoilín from 2nd and 3rd Class. We finished off the week with an assembly in which the whole school came together to perform An Haka Gaelach. We were also treated to a lovely rendition of Ámhrán na bhFiann from Mrs Ryan’s class.
The whole school showed their performance skills at our annual Christmas Concert on Thursday the 22nd of December. Beautiful singing, stunning recorder playing, a nativity and a very entertaining "Elf Factor" ensured a great show! A huge amount of work was put in by teachers and students and we hope all the parents enjoyed the two performances.
There has been some rather spooky sights spotted around the halls of Scoil Mhuire this Friday. Happy Halloween!
It is with a mixture of happiness and sadness that we gathered to say goodbye to our 6th class as they scatter to various secondary schools to continue their education. Mass was celebrated with Fr Anthony and as always Mrs O Brien our 6th class teacher had prepared a music treat for the guests; staff, children, families and members of the Board of Management. All the guests enjoyed tea and coffee and cakes provided by the 5th class parents. Even there were a few tears, a very enjoyable time was had by all! All the staff here in Scoil Mhuire would like to wish this group of fantastic young people all the best in their future. We know they will go out into the world and do us and their families proud!
On a beautiful summers day all the pupils of Scoil Mhuire gathered together to get fit and active! All children were divided into groups then it was down to our fantastic new yard for stations to practice our skills. After all the fun and games in the morning there was some serious business to attend to. As you know Scoil Mhuire has been awarded a fourth Green Flag and this had to be raised in an official ceremony. There were speeches from some of 6th class (Reka, Cara, Caoimhe B, Caoimhe M, Andrew and Luke) who explained what the Green Flag meant to them. They spoke not only to our students but also to the parents that had gathered to celebrate with us. Chotika did a fantastic job of raising the flag for us. The birthday girl was delighted with her cake! .Next it was onto the serious business of the races. Children had been practicing at home and in the yard all week to ensure they would be the first to cross the line. It could be said however that the mammies and daddies races were the most hotly contested....the less said about the teachers' race the better! After all the exertions it was time for the bbq, ice cream truck and most importantly the medal ceremony... Congratulations to all the medal winners and congrats to all the children who took part today. As always the children of Scoil Mhuire did themselves and their families proud.
Many thanks to all the parents and families that came to support our special day we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! |
