Christmas 2022

12/22/2022

Festivities started early with our Annual Pyjama Day to celebrate the Late Late Toy Show organised by the Parents Association.
Christmas 2022 kicked off in style in Knockraha with the decoration of the school windows. The very talented Ms K Walsh drew all the festive designs and she had some very busy elves to help with the painting.
Ms Clynch's class made some beautiful wreaths. Report by Eva Rose and Emily from Rang a Sé
6 th Class Centre Pieces
It was like a jungle in Ms Clynch’s 5th and 6th class on Thursday the 15th of December, as
we were making center pieces for our families. A few weeks before Ms Clynch asked us to
bring in some plastic cartons. We were all a bit puzzled on why we had to bring them in.
After what felt like weeks everyone had finally brought in there cartons. Ms Clynch then told
us what we needed the cartons for. She showed us all the materials that we would need to
make these center pieces which included green oasis foam (which we later used to keep the
plants alive). We also needed as much festive greenery as we could get. After everyone had
brought in their greenery, we got to work on creating the centre pieces. Firstly, Ms Clynch
gave out the green oasis foam then we soaked the foam. Then we placed our foam into the
cartons. Then Ms Clynch gave out a candle and a metal candle cup. Then we had to place
the candle very carefully into the foam. The classroom was destroyed at this point the centre
pieces where coming along. Lots of people where finished their centre pieces, most people
decided to spray paint some of their leaves gold or silver. We added flowers, pinecones and
decorations to the centre pieces. We brought them home and placed them on the dinner
table to light on Christmas Day.

There was great excitement for our Christmas Charachter Day which coincided with Cake Sale Friday, Yummy festive treats were supplied by Rang a Trí/Rang a Ceathair.
The costumes were amazing by all the pupils and it was a very hard decision but our judges chose some worthy winners from each class who all dressed up as their favourite Christmas Charachter..

Rang a Cuig/Sé wrote some very special Christmas stories for their buddies in Junior and Senior Infants. The younger children loved hearing the amazing stories written and illustrated  just for them.
We had a very special visitor to out school. He travelled in Knockraha style on a very shiny tractor and brought some treats for everyone in the school.
The highlight of our Christmas celebrations was the beautiful Carol Concert in St Mary's Church. The lovely singing was complemented by some amazing musicians.
All that is left to do now is wish all the pupils and families of Scoil Mhuire a very Merry Christmas and we will see you in the New Year.

LIFETIME LAB
5 th  and 6 th  class from Knockraha NS took the bus to the Old Water Works in UCC to the
Lifetime Lab. The lady introduced herself as Una and told us what was going to happen, it
was about engineering in electricity. We had our own lockers to hold our bags and coats. We
entered the lab. She explained to us about electricity and safety and then showed us how to
light a bulb and many other electrical objects. Then we were spilt into groups of three or four
to make circuits. Then we went into the tent to eat lunch and chat then we went back into the
lab to make more electrical objects. We built electrical cars using a motor, battery, jump
wires, cardboard and wheels. And the lady told us we were going to build electrical objects
without some key items she called it the survival challenges. Then she said to build a pet
scooby, which was a motorized brush. We tested them on the floor to see if they moved. She
also explained how to do diagrams. We all had a great day. Then we went back to school.

World cup fever

12/1/2022

We have some guest reporters for this blog: Many thanks to Brian and James from Rang a Sé for this fantastic report on all the soccer madness in Scoil Mhuire.
Scoil Mhuire World Cup, 10 teams competing for the title. Portagual were the favourites to
win the world cup. Netherlands and Argentina lost without winning a game. They didn't
score, but they played their hearts out. Eight people from 6 th  class were asked to ref the
games. Spain vs Brazil was the first quarter finals and it ended in a draw. Then it went to
penalties and Dillion Behan pinged in a penalty in top corner and everyone was jumping in
the air with excitment, Brazil had won. Portugal vs France was the second quarter final, it
was a tense match but France went through by two nil. That meant that the first semi-final
was Portugal vs Brazil. Then came the other quarter finals Uruguay vs Belgium. It went to
penalties and then Uruguay won it was very intense.
Then came the other quarter final England vs Germany, it was a draw so it went to penalties and Germany won. Then came the semi-finals. The first one was Brazil vs Portugal. It went to penalties and Conor Kelleher made an outstanding save to put Portugal through to the final. Next was the other semi-final
Germany vs Uruguay it went to penalties Josh Hegarty placed a penalty bottom corner but
Uruguay scored their penalty so it had to go to another round of penalties. Uraguay scored
and Germanys penalty hit the post so that sent Uraguay through to the final against
Portugual.Brian was the reffere for the final Ryan Murphy score a brilliant goal and then
Daniel scored for Uragauy. Then came half time Portagual got a penalty and Fionn stepped
up and placed it in the corner and the score was 2-1 to Uraguay it stayed that way for the
rest of the match so Uraguay won they were outstanding the whole school celebrated with
them. Then came the awards Lucy won best captain Brian won best referee and then
